WHO SEARO's Mentorship Visit and EMT Workshop for Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center Indonesia
29 - 30 January 2019
Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), one of the largest NGOs from Indonesia has expressed their interest in getting classified by WHO as an internationally deployable Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Type 1 in 2018. The organization aims to be the first NGO from WHO’s South-East Asia Region to pass the rigorous WHO EMT classification process. To initiate the mentorship process, a site visit was organized by WHO SEARO on 29 - 30 January 2019 to review the current set up and provide advice on the process.
Following the site visit, a one-day workshop was conducted by MDMC, which was attended by 69 participants from Muhammadiyah, as well as 19 representatives from other key EMT related stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Indonesia and the Indonesian Medical Association.
WHO SEARO facilitated the workshop by delivering presentations on the WHO EMT initiative, the mentorship and verification process, and principles and standards for EMTs. MDMC developed a roadmap of key steps to achieve verification status over the course of 2019.
