Noncommunicable Diseases and Environmental Health (NDE)

The Noncommunicable Diseases and Environmental Health (NDE) consist of two main teams:

    • Noncommunicable Diseases Management
    • Noncommunicable Diseases & Tobacco Surveillance
    • Tobacco Free Initiative
    • Disability, Injury Prevention and rehabilitation
    • Mental Health and Substance Abuse
    • Nutrition for Health and Development
  • Social Determinants of Health and Environmental Health
    • Water Sanitation & Health
    • Occupational and Environmental Health
    • Health Promotion and Education

The Department as a whole has an overall strategy and each team specializes in implementing a part of this strategy by specific goals.

The goal of NDE is to protect and promote health as a cornerstone of sustainable development. Emphasis will be placed on breaking the vicious cycle of poverty, food insecurity, malnutrition, environmental degradation and contamination, vulnerability, disability, injury prevention and rehabilitation. Through these inter-sectoral approaches and initiatives, health will be placed at the centre of the sustainable development agenda.
